    Guides/12. Licence, updates and account

    Guide 12.4

    Refunds, invoices and billing

Beginner, 4 min read. Checked with Scalpel 1.12.8 on October 15, 2026.

    In short

Scalpel is $299 (US dollars), paid once, plus VAT or sales tax where it applies, which Stripe adds at checkout from your billing address. Your receipts are on your account page at scalpeltrade.com/account, and your licence key is emailed to you. If Scalpel is not for you, email hello@scalpeltrade.com within 7 days of buying and you get the full amount back, tax included.

One price, no subscription, every update included. This page covers what you pay, where the paperwork is, and how the 7-day refund works.

    What you pay

    ItemAmount
Lifetime licence, two computers, every update$299 once
Through a referral link$269.10 (10% off, shown before you pay; see guide 12.5)
VAT or sales taxAdded at checkout where it applies, worked out by Stripe from your billing address
    SubscriptionNone

What Scalpel does not charge for matters as much: there is no paid data feed, no charting subscription and no separate scanner service to buy. Quotes, Level 2, the tape, the charts and IBKR's own scanner all come through your Interactive Brokers connection, and intel uses free public sources (SEC EDGAR, FINRA, Nasdaq). You pay Interactive Brokers for your market data as usual (guide 1.6). The only optional extra is your own OpenAI key for headline grading, a few cents a day.

There is no free trial: Scalpel needs a licence key to open. The 7-day refund is there instead, and SIM lets you practise without risking money from your first minute (guide 6.1).

    How buying works

    1. On the pricing page, click Get Scalpel. Sign in with your email (the same form creates your account): your licence lives in that account.
    2. Click Buy for $299. Stripe's secure checkout opens. Scalpel never sees or stores your card details.
    3. Enter your billing address. Stripe shows the tax for your country or state before you pay.
    4. Tick the terms box. It says you agree to the Terms and ask for immediate access to the download, which ends the 14-day right to cancel a digital purchase under UK law; the 7-day refund guarantee still applies.
    5. Pay. You land on your account page with "Payment received. Thank you." Your key is there, and a copy is on its way to your inbox.

The price is in US dollars. If your card is in another currency, your bank converts it at its own rate and may add a fee.

    Your receipts and invoice

Three places hold the record of your purchase:

    • Your purchase email has the key and the amounts: "Scalpel lifetime licence: $299.00 + tax $59.80. Total paid: $358.80" (for 20% VAT).
    • Your account page lists every purchase under Receipts, with the date, subtotal, tax, total and a status: Paid, Refunded or Disputed.
    • Stripe creates an invoice for every purchase.

The Receipts panel at the bottom of scalpeltrade.com/account. Demo data: 20% VAT on $299.

The seller on every receipt is QUITE RIGHT LIMITED, a company registered in England and Wales. Need an invoice with your business details, or a copy of the Stripe invoice? Email hello@scalpeltrade.com from the address you bought with.

    The 7-day refund

    1. 01

      Write within 7 days

Email hello@scalpeltrade.com from the address you bought with, or reply to your purchase email, within 7 days of your purchase. You do not need to give a reason.

    2. 02

      Get the full amount back

The whole amount you paid, tax included, goes back to your original payment method through Stripe. It usually reaches you in 5 to 10 business days, depending on your bank. Your receipt then shows Refunded.

    3. 03

      Your licence ends

A refunded licence is revoked. Scalpel stops accepting it the next time it checks in (at start, and every 12 hours), or when its 72-hour offline period runs out. It never cuts you off in the middle of a session: you see a banner and the licence screen at the next start. The Customer role in the Discord is removed.

    Tip

Use the 7 days. Install, connect to TWS or IB Gateway, and spend a few sessions in SIM with your own hotkeys and sizes (guide 1.7). That tells you far more than any video. If something does not work, ask in the Discord first: most setup problems take minutes to fix.

    After 7 days

Purchases are final after 7 days. Your rights under UK consumer law still apply at any time: if Scalpel is faulty or not as described, it gets put right. The full wording is in the refund policy and the terms.

Chargebacks: please email before you dispute a payment with your bank. A disputed payment shows Disputed on your receipts, and a lost dispute revokes the licence.

    Questions

    How much does Scalpel cost?
$299 once, plus VAT or sales tax where it applies. It is a lifetime licence for two computers with every update. There is no subscription.
    Is there a free trial?
No. Scalpel needs a licence key to open. Instead you get a 7-day refund: email within 7 days of buying and you get the full amount back, tax included.
Why was I charged VAT or sales tax?
The $299 price excludes tax. Stripe adds the VAT or sales tax due in your country or state, worked out from the billing address you enter at checkout, and shows it before you pay.
    Where is my invoice?
Your receipts are on scalpeltrade.com/account and in your purchase email. For an invoice with your business details, email hello@scalpeltrade.com from the address you bought with.
How long does a refund take?
The refund goes back through Stripe to your original payment method. Banks usually take 5 to 10 business days to show it.
Do I need to pay for market data on top?
Only what Interactive Brokers charges you for market data, as with any IBKR platform. Scalpel needs no third-party data feed, charting subscription or scanner service.
