How to install
On Windows
- 01Download the appYou get Scalpel-windows-x64.exe, a portable app: no installer. Keep it anywhere, for example on your desktop. It stores its settings, logs and paper ledger under %APPDATA%\scalpel.
- 02Run itScalpel is not signed with a Microsoft certificate, so Windows SmartScreen says "Windows protected your PC" the first time. Click More info, then Run anyway.
On macOS
The macOS build for Apple silicon is not published yet. When it is, it downloads here as a disk image and sets up the same way: start TWS or IB Gateway with the API enabled, open Scalpel and paste your licence key.
Then, on either
- 01Start TWS or IB GatewayLog in and enable the API. In TWS: Configure > API > Settings > Enable ActiveX and Socket Clients. In IB Gateway: Configure > Settings > API. Scalpel uses port 7497 for TWS and 4001 for IB Gateway, and offers to switch if it finds the other one running.
- 02Paste your licence keyOn first launch Scalpel asks for your key. Copy it from your account page or your purchase email. Each licence covers two machines.
- 03Learn it in SIMScalpel opens in SIM, a paper ledger that fills against the live book. Learn the keys there before you switch to LIVE.
System requirements
- An Interactive Brokers account
- TWS or IB Gateway running and logged in on the same machine, with the API enabled
- A live US stock market data subscription; without one you see delayed data or nothing
- For Level 2, the matching IBKR market depth subscription
- Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, with a current graphics driver (the interface draws on the GPU)
